In the district
Leo District 306 D1 follows the western coast. It takes in the Colombo seafront — the Port City, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya and Wellawatte, west of Galle Road — then runs south through Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia and Moratuwa, and on into the coastal divisions of Kalutara: Panadura, Beruwala, Bentota, Balapitiya and Ambalangoda. It is a narrow district on the map and a densely populated one on the ground, and most of what its clubs do happens close to the people it is done for.
The clubs chartered here are not all of one kind. Some are school clubs, run by students in Colombo, Moratuwa and Kalutara. Some are university clubs, and some are alumni chapters formed by Leos who did not want to stop when they graduated. Others are community clubs, open to any young person in the district whatever they are studying or wherever they work. A Leo who joins at school can carry on through university and long past graduation without ever leaving D1.
Leo is the youth organisation of Lions Clubs International, and Multiple District 306 covers Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The work rests on three things, in this order: leadership, developing the skills young people need to lead their communities; experience, gained through volunteering that has a real effect on the people it reaches; and opportunity, the pathways and networks that open once a young person has done both. At district scale that means projects a club can actually finish — a school, a street, a stretch of coastline — repeated across the district until the total is anything but small.
Every club in D1 is looking for members, and the shortest way in is the one nearest you. Search the register below to find it.
